I’ve been so preoccupied with my web comic,
I nearly forgot to make a post here!

But don’t worry, here I am posting a post here where I normally make posts. *cough* Anyway, on with the show. There’s not much I have to talk about, so instead of coming up with some witty title for today’s post, it’s merely just summary of what I will be blabbing on about. So let’s start at the end.

I’ve been reading Dan Brown’s latest book: The Lost Symbol. It’s a sequel to Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code in the sense that its the same main character, Robert Langdon. Apparently every other character he meets in the other books seem to fall off the face of the earth because they never get a single mention (despite the fact we get reminded of what happened in the previous books every second page!). Ehm, but yeah, it’s actually quite a good book, if not incredibly annoying. You see, the whole book takes place within a few hours, but there’s about 500 odd pages, so it takes forever for anything to actually happen in the book (I swear there was about 4 chapters of just him walking down a long corridor.). But when stuff does happen, its awesome and really interesting. I’m only half way through the book, so I’ll talk about it more when I’m done.

Now as most of you know my web comic, The Legend of Dave, is now up and running for a week. The first four episodes are up and number five comes out tomorrow. After that, its weekly updates every Monday! The reason I wanted to put 5 episodes up straight away, is so that people have something to read when they come visit. Anyway, I’m really excited about the comic, and the feedback I’ve been getting is all positive so Woo Hoo! :P

And lastly, I’ve been watching more of Castle, a lot more. Last week I mentioned that I watched the first episode of a tv show called Castle, starring Nathan Fillion. Well, I watched a few more episodes and fell in love with the show, or more correctly, Nathan Fillion. The show is actually really good, and presents the murder cases in interesting ways, but really its Nathan Fillion that keeps me watching. I mean the guy is just a great actor! I’ve watched all of the first season and I’m catching up on whats already aired of season 2. Most of you probably haven’t heard of this tv show so all I can say is “GO Watch IT!”

But lets face, you all came here for one thing:

It’s Time…

Yes, after months of talking about it
I finally bought the web site for my web comic

Yep, and you can check it out right over here at legendofdave.com! :D And I have to say it was a bitch to set up, mostly because WordPress’ purchasing site had a sudden crash just as I bought the site sooo as far as WordPress was concerned my website was up and running, despite the fact it didn’t exist. :P But I got it sorted in the end, and now its open to the public!

The Web comic itself won’t start till about Thursday. The plan is that I’ll release the first 5 episodes and then have regular updates every Monday. So hopefully everyone will enjoy it :D

As for other things going on: Last night was Halloween. I went to a party at a friend’s house which was awesome. It was a costume party I decided to go as Scott Pilgrim! Only one other person there recognized the name… God! :P A group of my friends went as the crew from Firefly! Our Captain Reynolds looked exactly like Nathan Fillion so it was awesome.

There’s probably a load of other stuff I wanted to write about here but I can’t for the life of me remember what any of it was. All that springs to mind is I finished Uncharted 2 on Crushing (turns out it was not that crushing) and I watched an episode of Castle! Y’know that new TV show that has Nathan Fillion in it. It was OK. I’m not really sure what to make of it. It seems good and fun, but it also seems like a complete rip off of the TV show Bones just with the characters switched. But I’m gonna watch a few more episodes before I make a real judgment on it. Also, I’m currently trying to acquire the first 3 episodes of Firefly so I can watch through it again. God I love Nathan Fillion!

Anyway, that’s it from me. But before I go here’s some

Its That Time Again…

Its a Bank Holiday weekend, but I got an extra day off so:
Four Day Weekend

Yep, I have Monday and Tuesday off from college this week. I haven’t any plans made out for it or anything, I just like the fact that I get to sleep in a lot this weekend. Mostly because today my eye has been doing this weird twitchy thing thats making me sleepy :/ Kinda weird right?

Anyway, lets move on! So, again, not much to report this week. I got another CA in college: We’veĀ  been put into groups of 2 and told to make an interactive video. I got paired with a good friend of mine and we have an awesome idea for it so hopefully things will go well. It’s gonna be a sort of video game idea.

Oh, despite what I said last week about not buying games? Well, I sorta gave in. I bought (and finished in 3 days) Uncharted 2 and well… it was absolutely AWESOME! Seriously, what an amazing story! I found it difficult to put the damn controller down. There was a point where I had played through the first 16 chapters in one sitting! I thought maybe I should take a break, partly because I had been playing for so long, but mostly because I hate finishing a game the same day I got it. I figured I must be close to the end, only to find out that I was really only half way. But, as I said, I’ve finished it now. It was great, and truly worth every penny. I’m replaying it at the moment on Crushing Mode, and trying to find every treasure in the game. I’ve got a lot of the achievements as well.

Also, it’s only dawned on me that, this time next week, I’ll be launching the website for my web comic. It’s kinda scary that the moment is so close now. I’m kinda getting cold feet about the whole thing, committing to it, but I’m definitely going to go ahead with it.

It’s Halloween next Saturday, which leaves me with only a few days to decide on and buy a Halloween costume! Last year I went as Jack Shephard, from the TV show Lost. Apart from myself only 2 other people recognized who I was, and that was because I had already told them! So this year I’m going to try and go as someone no one will recognize! Haha! The two main ideas I have for costumes are:

  1. Scott Pilgrim, from the graphic novel series of the same name.
  2. Flapjack, from the cartoon “The Marvelous Misadventure of Flapjack”.

I want to go as Scott Pilgrim because well, for starters there’s a movie based on the comic coming out next year directed by my favourite director Edgar Wright, so I want to try and promote that. But also because, costume-wise, there’s nothing to it. Seriously its just a jacket, t shirt, jeans and shoes. I’d look like I hadn’t made the effort! :P I probably should explain that. See, I like dressing up as people no one recognizes because then I can babble on about who the person is and stuff. :D Anyway, the only problem with the Scott Pilgrim costume is I want to get some custom t shirts done up. Ones that have logos and designs like the one he wears in the comic itself. I can’t find anywhere that can get them printed in such short notice so I might have to do it myself, which could go horribly wrong. Anyway, I have Flapjack as my back up plan. I’ll be sure to post some sort of pictures up here at some point.

Anyway, I’ve babbled long enough so here’s your

Sunday, Sunday…

Another Sunday
Another post

Yep, its Sunday again, which means it’s time for another post. And now that I’m sitting here… I can’t think of anything. I know I had stuff I wanted to talk about, things to tell you all, but I can’t for the life of me remember any of them. So I guess I’ll try and give you a fill on some small details!

One of my favourite cartoons is coming back for a 4th season tonight in the US. The Venture Bros is an awesome cartoon, a big inspiration for my web comic, and other stuff that I do. You should definitely watch it if you;’re in the US! Yesterday I watched a movie called Eagle vs Shark. It’s a New Zealand movie starring one half of Flight of the Conchords, Jermaine Clement. Its a good movie, really nice and quirky story.

Oh! Uncharted 2 came out on Friday! …but I didn’t buy it. I wanted to, in fact at one point I was standing a shop holding it in my hand thinking “I want to buy this right now”, but I didn’t. Mostly because I hope I’ll be getting for my birthday (only a month away) but also because I don’t have the money. Despite the fact that I have nearly 100 euro readily available for non-sensible spending, I can’t afford to buy the game. Mostly because 70 euro of that money is going towards buying the special edition of Assassin’s Creed II, but also because the other 30 odd euro is for my web comic. Even though I’m going to be setting up a wordpress blog to post my comic in, I still need money to pay for the Custom CSS add on, and to pay for my domain name. All of which is coming along quite nicely by the way.

Anyway, the point I wanted to make above was that in a desperate attempt to fill the no new video game void in my life I started to play some of my video games and try getting all their trophies! So I started with GTA IV, after about 20 attempts at trying to finish a vigilante mission I gave up. Yeah, I know they’re not that hard but it’s been a long time since I played the game ok! Next was Uncharted, the first game. I only had about 5 trophies left to get in this game so I thought, why not? Well, first I had to finish the game in hard mode to get that trophy. And that was easy enough, hell I even managed to get the other 2 or 3 trophies while playing it. But then I had to try and finish the game in Crushing mode… I gave up after chapter 4.

So what did I play next? Well, I looked at my shelf of games and thought to myself “which of these games have I not got many trophies in?” Metal Gear Solid 4? No. Fallout 3? Already got them all. Star Wars Force Unleashed? No… wait a sec yes! Yes! Force Unleashed had gotten an update that introduced trophies into the game. So I fired it in and started a new game. Things got off to a good start. I got 5 trophies in the prologue level pretty easily. Then a few more in the next level. But something doesn’t feel right about playing it. When I first got this game I loved it. But now that the whole “using the force to throw storm troopers around” excitement has faded, I’ve realized this game is just a button mashing, unskippable cut scenes, waste of time… in a nice way! It’s an alright game, I just really don’t want to play it anymore.

So all I’ve got left is Dead Space. Now, I liked that game. It was good and scary, but… a bit long. Do I really want to commit myself to putting in the time. I checked up the trophies for it and a lot of its trophies seem to be play the game only doing this or that! I’d have to play it like 4 times to get them all! Maybe I’ll just stick with Star Wars, or go back to GTA.

Anyway, look at that, I’ve managed to babble on for a long enough time. You’ve listened to me long enough now. I know what you’re all here for, so here you go. You earned it

Squirrel!…

Those of who you get the title joke: congrats.
Those who don’t: Go see UP!

So UP is finally out in Europe now, or it has been since last Friday. I saw it last night, and it was awesome. The movie looked great, as can be expected from a Pixar movie, and I got to see it in 3-D! One of the things that made it excellent for me was the story. Yeah, it had that really sad bit at the start, and yeah, you were always reminded of it, but I think it gave the story that bit more emotional depth than the other Pixar movies. The was a real sense of warmth at the end, especially that tear jerky moment with the book. Hopefully that didn’t spoil anything for those who haven’t seen it yet. But then again you really should have gone seen it by now so its your own faults really.
Anyway, in other news, I’m extremely tired today! I think it was that last lecture I had. 3 hours with a German man trying to fix some Adobe program and teach us at the same time is not what I call fun. Oh well, guess I should expect a few dud classes through the year. Plus my cold doesn’t help. Well, not so much cold as agonizing sore throat that I pray to god isn’t Swine Flu!

I haven’t really done much with my web comic as of late. I keep meaning to but then life gets in the way. But I should be able to get it done over the weekend, along with all the other comic related stuff I had hoped to do. I’ve slowly realised that Thursday to Sunday is really the only free time I have to work on my comic, which means I’ll probably have to rethink the weekly schedule I had planned. Not that any of this is making sense to you people, but believe me, very soon it will!

I’ll leave it at that for now. I was gonna put up a link to some youtube video I saw and cool flash game, but I’m far too tired to go looking for them. Maybe in my next post.

Till next time.

College Video FTW…

Well look at this,
I’m actually on time with one of my posts for once.

Yep, it’s Sunday again and that means another post from yours truly. What can I say? Well, the week was pretty much like every other week: Went to college, worked on my web comic, played video games, sleep. Yeah, I know, riveting stuff. But I do have a special gift for you guys. Ya see, for my MM Comms module in college we’ve been separated into groups and told to make a short movie. We started about 4 weeks ago and we’re finally done! We had to make a movie based on “an encounter between two people” with some weird/restrictive conditions. It had to be in black and white, and there could be no dialogue. Essentially we had to make a silent movie :P However during editing we decided to put a little bit of colour in, so our movie is just tinted black and white.

There’s not much to the movie my group made. It’s just a simple handshake, but with the added drama that one man is passing on his cold to another by not washing his hands after he sneezes! Again, riveting stuff here. Anyway, I uploaded the movie here so you guys could watch it. Y’know, cause I’m nice like that.

In other news, I’ve been playing the Uncharted 2 multiplayer demo a lot. I think I might be addicted, and I’m seriously considering buying it when it comes out, even though my birthday is quite soon and I was told not to buy anything just in case. Oh the trials and tribulations I face. Whatever shall I do? Oh who cares, lets just move on to:

Random Splendor

Oh and not that many of you are interested, I think my web comic might be ready to go live in about 2 or 3 weeks!

Till next time

That’s right! It’s only been 2 days
since I last made a post but here I am again!

Yep, I’m not too sure why, but I felt I had to make another post again so soon. I guess its cos even though I’ve been saying over and over and over again that I haven’t really been doing much, I guess it’s kind of a lie. I have been doing stuff, just didn’t seem that interesting. But that’s not for me to decide, that’s your job!

Anyway, ok, enough of the rambling. On with the show! Lets start with the hum and drum stuff. A lot of my favourite TV shows have started up again in the U.S. Shows like Bones, Heroes, Fringe & The Big Bang Theory have all started a new season around the same time, and that means lots of downloading and watching on my part. Oh and the Office (The U.S. version) started season 6 like 3 weeks ago. Its the most hilarious show I’ve seen in a while. Tis truly awesome.

Ok, now the more geeky stuff! The beta for Uncharted 2’s multiplayer came out last weekend on the PlayStation network store thing. I’ve been playing it non-stop. Its awesome. I’ve only encountered a few bugs (like teleporting randomly across the map) but apart from them every thing is running smoothly. The only problem I have with it is that sometimes the waiting period for finding a game goes on forever. But when you finally get into a game, its worth it. I can’t wait for this game to come out… or more specifically, I can’t wait till a month after its been released till I finally get it cos my brithday is so close. Oh did I not mention that? Yeah, my birthday is on November 22nd so get shopping people!

And lastly, I’m finally out of my money rot. After weeks of not flushing my money away at the only comic book store around I starting to get bored. Hell, I bought Final Fantasy IV for the DS for cheap just so I had something to do! Turns out it wasn’t too good. Anyway, I have money again and on Thursday I’m feeding my habit.

Phew! Ok, so now that I’ve got that out of my system, I’m gonna go read a book, or watch Heroes, or something. Oh, but one more thing: this is a trailer for an awesome movie coming out at the end of the month. I don’t know if it’ll be big enough to be in a cinema near me but I hope so! I give you Gentlemen Broncos:

(I tried embedding the player into the post but it just kept disappearing so you’ll have to click the link, like the olde days)

CLICK ME!

Oh and one very last thing: I forgot to mention in the last post, that the Random Splendor from the last post is going to be a weekly thing, every Sunday. Just so I get into the habit of posting more regularly.

Till then.

Catching Up…

It’s been about a week so I guess
I should post something right?

Well, here I am again, ready to catch you up on all the things I’ve been doing since last time. Well, to be perfectly honest not that much (which seems to be happening a lot lately). Most of my time has been spent on working on my webcomic. I’ve got the first few done and ready, and I’ve got the next few scripted out. I’ve mentioned this webcomic of mine in the last few posts, but never real said all that much about it, so I guess this as a good a time as any.

Ok, so I’ve wanted to do a comic for ages now. I first tried putting together a comic for normal print, but that didn’t really pan out too well. Then I got the idea of maybe doing a webcomic. What mainly drew me to this idea was the fact that each strip is relatively short and the story can be stretched out for as long as I want. So I came up with a few ideas and my webcomic was born. I’ve mainly drawn influence from 8 bit theater and RoosterTeeth.com. My webcomic is going to be a sort of Legend of Zelda/Final Fantasy kind of story, with a group of heroes who don’t belong at all.

I’m hopefully going to be setting up the website soon. I’m waiting till I have the first couple of strips done before going live. I’ll do a better post describing it when I actually go up with it.

But until then, I’ll just have to entertain you guys with the new idea I came up with for this blog. Basically, I’m stealing the idea from artist Scott Wegener over at Atomic-Robo.com. He calls it Random Splendor, but I’m calling it Random Splendor! Ok ok so its the same name and not very imaginative on my part but just go with me on this. Ok, so with out further ado, lets have some:

Just Shuffling Along…

I’ve been meaning to write another post,
but I just kept forgetting to…

Until now that is! It’s been over a week since I last made a post so I guess it’s about time I said something more. But in all honesty, I haven’t too much to tell really. College has pretty much been the center of my universe the past few days. I’m still trying to get used to waking up at 7 in the morning again. Apart from that I haven’t done much.

I haven’t got any money so I haven’t been able to buy any new comics or games. A friend of mine got ODST and he tells me its amazing. He said when he’s finished with it he’ll give me a lend but that could be a while off. Ehm… Oh, I got the new Dan Brown book, The Lost Symbol. I haven’t gotten too far into it yet, but it seems good so far.

Yeah, apart from that, I’ve been working on my web comic. I have a few drawings done, and the first issue is finished. I’m gonna wait till I have a few done before I go ahead and make the whole thing live, so as I keep saying, I’ll be posting about my web comic, and where to find it, all very soon.

I guess that’s it for now. I’ll try to have something more to say next time I make a post.

Till then.

Finally Back In College…

I’m back in college, doing what I love most,
But it’s got me so damn tired!

So today was my first back in college. I’m in second year now and I’m back to doing what I love; making websites, understanding computers, drawing weird stuff. I actually really enjoy college, but the feeling I’m getting for this year is that they’re gonna kick it up a notch, theory wise. Ah well, at least in one of the classes we’ll get to rip apart a PC to see “the architecture” :P

In other news there’s not much else going on. It’s late September now so a few games are coming out soon (I’m talking about you ODST :D ) but I’m rather down on cash. I have barely enough to feed myself everyday but without a job I can’t afford the luxuries in life. I’ll have to start considering bringing a lunch with me.

I’ve mentioned a few times that I’m working on a web comic. I never really give much detail but I just love telling you that I’m doing it. I know, I’m weird, and if you didn’t know that by now then you obviously don’t read this blog very often. Anyway, I was considering buying a domain and getting a hosting company but I decided against it in the end. Again, its money reasons. I just can’t afford the monthly charges, even if it is only about 10 dollars a month. So I’ve decided to go with the cheap option: set up a new blog here on wordpress to post the comics. I’m going to get the Custom CSS upgrade to make the site look all fancy, and I’ve already been working on the CSS so. Yeah, just thought I’d let you know.

Oh, meandering back to College talk, I forgot how awesome my college friends are. We didn’t really meet up over the summer, only talking every so often on networking sites and stuff. But now that we’re hanging out again it’s awesome. Especially since all the awkward “first year college-I don’t know anyone” feelings are gone.

Anyway, I’ve taken up enough of your time.

Till next time.
